Robyn Hanson knows the trails on Mount Desert Island better than most. A fifth-generation Seal Harbor resident, she and her business partner, Jamie Whitehead, have launched the Acadia Outdoor Center to enhance local outdoor experiences while providing year-round recreation for the community.
Entering the Naturalist’s Notebook in Seal Harbor is like crossing the threshold into another world –– only the world is this world, and the story it tells is the oldest story in existence. The beloved Exploratorium will reopen in 2021 as a year-round establishment.
Georgia O’Keeffe once wrote that “Nothing is less real than realism. Details are confusing. It is only by selection, by elimination, by emphasis, that we get at the real meaning of things.” At Artemis Gallery in Northeast Harbor, a collection of Maine-inspired and Maine-made artworks give evidence of O’Keeffe’s words.
Over its six years on air, Greenlight Maine has become a spoke in the wheel for Maine’s business community. The popular televised startup program will expand its operations to 149 Main Street in Northeast Harbor, where it will continue to help businesses to build a foundation for success.
Main Street’s newest resident is Global Tides Consulting, LLC, a boutique consulting firm that specializes in community integration services for new Mainers. Global Tides Consulting's work includes advocacy, trusted referrals, and networking opportunities for new employees.
Moving into 147 Main Street this winter is Good Design Here, a furniture and design store owned by Diana Brochendorff, a long-time resident of Mount Desert.
